Dietary Guidelines for Americans

&

A Healthier You

In January 2005, the U. S. Department of Health and Human Services published an updated dietary guideline for Americans.  These guidelines suggest that you have a minimum of 4 servings of fruit and 5 servings of vegetables a day.  Remember the "Five a Day" campaign which suggested we consume 5 servings of fruits and vegetables daily?  Now the minimum is 9 servings a day--almost twice as much as what was previously recommended.  Based on your activity, age and gender, you may need to consume up to 11 servings daily.  You can download these guidelines (an 84-page Adobe Acrobat PDF document) or read the guidelines on their web site.  In addition, you will find other useful links and documents, such as A Healthier You, a 325 page document, which is available for download or you can order a softbound copy for $15.
